Bagatelles pour Nouvel An
Location
Musée Cernuschi
Paris
Description
As part of the Chinese New Year weekend, composer
Lin-Ni Liao imagines, together with guitarist
Alice Letort and percussionist
David Joignaux, a dialogue between her
Bagatelles and the museum’s collections.
With her guitar, Alice Letort pays tribute to the koto (Japanese zither) and other string instruments presented in the permanent collections. The large tam-tam evokes drums and bronze objects through their materiality. These musical dialogues using contemporary instruments invite reflection on the music of ancient China.
These musical interventions, followed by a moment of exchange with the audience, awaken curiosity and imagination in both young and old.
As Debussy suggested in his musical transcriptions of the Far East, human imagination always transcends borders — geographic, historical or cultural.

About the project
Pages électriques extends Christelle Séry’s solo research into amplified and electric guitar practices, exploring new contemporary repertoire beyond established works such as Vampyr! (Murail) or Trash TV Trance (Romitelli). The project focuses on sound texture, mass effects, temporal diffusion, and expanded instrumental expression.
